HISTORY OF DON-BAR

Charles Dombard

The history of Don-Bar began in Belgium in 1966. At the time, it was Charles Dombard who produced the first designs for hearths which were marketed in Europe.

In 1980, Mr. Dombard made the happy meeting of Gilbert Dion with whom he joined to create the first Don-Bar entity across the Atlantic.

Birth of the 9120 model

The design of Don-Bar fireplaces, for Mr. Dombard, had to ensure that the design could stand the test of time without going out of style. He also designed the first central hearths, in particular the “9120” model still sold today, 50 years later.

Gilbert Dion becomes sole shareholder

Following the death of Charles Dombard in 1988, Gilbert Dion bought the shares of the company from the Belgian family in order to become the sole shareholder of the Quebec company, at the time based in Lévis. Mr. Dion, in order to pursue the vision of its founder, designed 5 new models of central fireplaces whose unique visual appearance has proven itself for nearly 35 years.

Moving to Quebec

Since 2003, the company has found its facilities at 741 St-Vallier West, in the heart of Quebec. The various models designed by Mr. Dion are designed in these premises of more than 36,000 sq. ft., in addition to being exhibited in a showroom of nearly 5,000 sq. ft. Its products are also resold at various independent stores in Quebec.

Gilbert Dion, president

In addition to holding the helm of his business, Mr. Dion was involved in various boards of directors in the region, including the International Sacred Music of Quebec. He also participated in the Board of Directors of the Hôtel de Glace for which he had to design a unique model of an isolated hearth so that it would not melt the ice.
